Eastbound, westbound or a slip road

State your direction and the nearest junction, then say whether the vehicle is on the main carriageway, hard shoulder, slip road or within a service area. A map pin and location-sign reference can help if available safely. Do not walk beside traffic to find a sign or photograph the car.

Safety before the recovery request

If possible, reach an exit or service area. If unable to continue, move left and stop as far from traffic as possible. Leave by the side away from traffic only when safe, and wait well away from the car and traffic. If you cannot reach safety or exit safely, stay belted with hazards on and call 999 for police. Never place a warning triangle on a motorway.

Where the car needs to go

Once safe, provide the vehicle model, wheel condition, passenger needs and destination. The team can assess recovery to a Cardiff garage, home or another address. Where traffic officers or police are managing the scene, their instructions and any required traffic management take priority over a preferred collection arrangement.

BEFORE YOUR COLLECTION

Your questions, answered.

Can you give a fixed arrival time on the M4?

Availability and an arrival estimate must be confirmed after assessing the position, suitable vehicle and traffic conditions. Do not treat a quote response as truck arrival.

Should I use the form if the car is in a live lane?

Call 999 immediately if you are in danger or cannot reach safety. Complete the recovery request only when it is safe to do so.
